We are very happy to announce the publication of two books, which are not necessarily academic, but still convey our academic findings in quite a colourful and accessible manner. The first is the “Picture Book” of the ira.urban project (http://www.ira-urban.de/) on urban reconfigutations in post-Soviet space, which some of you might already know. The project just recently came to the end of its runtime, and this picture book is just a wonderful “final product”. It marries insightful texts with a lot of images, graphics and maps, and is very nice to look at, too!

Together with Tauri Tuvikene, Wladimir has written a chapter on urban infrastructures, which includes the demise of Soviet-era public transport and the rise of marshrutkas at the one hand, as well as new road building, pipeline or mobile phone infrastructures on the other. Jointly with Carola Neugebauer, Lela has co-authored a chapter on public spaces, discussing ways of access to it, its uses and appropriations, and the many, many conflicts attached to it.

The second book we would like to present is the Dushanbe Architecture Guide:
It was as well recently published with DOM publishers. As you might be aware, Dushanbe is undergoing a process of severe, even brutal, reconstruction, and remodeling of the entire city center. Thus, an architecture guide is only an attempt to get hold of buildings, streets and sceneries which might just not be there any more, once you actually visit the city with the book in hand. Within this large collection of critical, well-informed, and well-illustrated contributions, Wladimir has written a chapter on Dushanbe’s central monuments, and another on the interplay between architecture and mobilities.
